It's officially crunch time.

With just two weeks left of competition in all spring sports, this week is as important as it gets.

In addition to the individual tennis state tournament wrapping up and the 5A baseball and softball playoffs rolling on, 20 track and field teams will compete in a last-chance meet at Sabino and the 4A baseball and softball teams will kick off their playoff runs.

Here's a look at the busy week ahead.

Today

• Tennis: Several Southern Arizona competitors advanced to the Division I and II semifinals set for 11 a.m. at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale. The finals follow at 1:30 p.m. at the same venue.

Palo Verde's Carlos Bermudez is chasing a third straight state championship.

He will face Catalina Foothills' Wade Heerboth in the semis.

On the girls side, Canyon del Oro's Rita Bermudez will face Foothills' Rachana Bhat in a semifinal matchup.

Doubles teams that advanced to the semis in the top two divisions include: Ironwood Ridge's Marissa Baca and Katrina Domingo, Catalina Foothills' Zaina Sufi and Sam Ruth and Salpointe Catholic's Maeve McGeorge and Claire Baxter.

For the boys, three doubles teams are still alive. Ironwood Ridge has two teams in the semis, Alec and Cody Petford, and Josh Taylor and Connor Spiegel. Foothills' Brandon Anhalt and Jason Keatseangsilp also made it through.

Thursday-Friday

• Track and field: Twenty Southern Arizona teams are slated to be at Sabino for the two-day Kino/ Sonoran Invitational.

The meet, open to schools outside of the two regions, serves as a last-chance qualifying meet.

This is the final invitational before the state meet on May 13 and 14.

The meet begins Thursday at 3 p.m. with the boys pole vault.

The final event of the night will be the girls 1,600-meter relay. The meet resumes Friday at 3 p.m. with the girls pole vault.

The boys 1,600-meter finale will be the final event of the meet.

Saturday

• Baseball and softball: The 4A baseball and softball tournaments open up one week after the 5A tournaments got under way.

In 4A-I baseball, Canyon del Oro, Cienega, Sabino and Nogales are all hoping to host first-round games.

In 4A-II, Douglas and Catalina are currently in the top eight of the power rankings and are also fighting to have home games.

In 4A softball, Sahuaro, Canyon del Oro, Cienega and Sahuarita are all potential hosts. Saturday also serves as the semifinals of pool play for the 5A tournaments.
