Eric Marcotte, 30, won today's 28th annual El Tour de Tucson bicycle race, despite high wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

The Phoenix resident crossed the finish line of the 109-mile race in 4 hours 32 minutes 34 seconds. His victory ends the three-year reign of Mexican riders at El Tour.

The women's winner was Tucson's Erica Allar. Allar circled the perimeter of Tucson in 4:34:28. She was 17th overall and earned her second El Tour victory after a win in 2008.

Almost 9,000 cyclists participated in El Tour, the largest participatory event in Southern Arizona. Riders from four races — 109, 79, 66 and 40 miles — continued to cross the finish line downtown through 6 p.m.
