A new run has been established to honor the 19 firefighters killed in the Yarnell Fire as well as the emergency personnel who lost their lives on 9/11.

“It’s all to honor them,” said Steve Taggart, the race director of the “Hotshots … Run to Remember and Never Forget 7.25 Miles” which takes place Saturday at Colossal Cave Mountain Park. It will be limited to 200 runners; as of Tuesday there was room to sign up.

Proceeds will benefit the Prescott Firefighters Charities established to benefit families of the firefighters who died battling a wildfire near Prescott in June.

Tagg Running has also pledged to donate $1 out of every registration to the Wildland Firefighters Foundation.

The 7.25-mile course will start and finish at the cowboy statue in La Posta Quemada Ranch.

It is a cross-country course of pavement and trails with hills and some rocky footing.

The top finisher will receive a bronze Pulaski ax like those used in wildland firefighting, he said. The top 19 finishers will receive numbered T-shirts.
