A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Southern Arizona Community Sports Center will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Curtis Park, 2110 W. Curtis Rd., near the corner of North La Cholla Boulevard and West River Road.

The new recreational facility will offer up to five basketball and eight volleyball courts, in addition to space for individual and organized team sports activities.

Pima County and several community organizations are responsible for the facility.

Speakers will include former University of Arizona basketball coach, Lute Olson, Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson, Southern Arizona Community Sports founder Don Tringali, Tucson Medical Center vice president Julia Strange and Brandt Hazen of the Tucson Conquistadores.
