Former Canyon del Oro High School star Kayla Bonstrom hit one of two Stanford homers Friday night, and the host Cardinal beat the Arizona Wildcats 2-0.

Bonstrom's one-out homer in the fourth inning gave Stanford a 1-0 lead. One out later, Cassandra Roulund made it 2-0 with another homer.

Both long balls came against Arizona starter Nancy Bowling, who walked the next two batters and threw two wild pitches during those two walks before being relieved by Estela Pinon.

Pinon got the third out and held Stanford to one hit over the last two innings.

Stanford pitcher Kelsey Stevens pitched a five-hit shutout.

Bowling and Pinon limited Stanford to four hits.

Alex Lavine had two hits for Arizona. Brigette Del Ponte and Lavine singled in the ninth, but the Wildcats could not score.

Bonstrom, a freshman, went 1 for 2 and leads the Cardinal with a .409 batting average. She has a 15-game hitting streak, during which she has batted .528 (28 for 53).

Bonstrom had a story-book season for CDO last year, hitting .603 with 16 homers, including the state-title-clinching home run in extra innings.

She also won four state tournament games as a pitcher and was named the Star's Player of the Year.
