The Arizona Wildcats have replaced one All-Pac-12 shortstop with another.

Kellie Fox, who earned first-team all-conference honors as a UCLA freshman in 2011, has enrolled in classes and will play for the Arizona Wildcats beginning in the 2014 season.

UA coach Mike Candrea said Thursday that Fox is recovering from ulnar nerve replacement surgery in her elbow and is "ready to start doing some things" while practicing with the team.

The UA on Thursday received a waiver of the Pac-12's in-conference transfer rule, meaning Fox must sit out this season but will receive financial aid. Fox will have two seasons of eligibility, starting next January.

Had the UA not received the waiver, Fox would have been considered a senior in 2014 and had just one year of eligibility. If that was the case, she could have looked to play outside the Pac-12, where she would have had two years of eligibility.

The UA received approval from at least nine of the Pac-12's faculty representatives, who voted after the Wildcats submitted the request.

In 2014, Fox will help fill the hole left by Shelby Pendley, a first-team all-conference shortstop last year who announced in December that she would transfer.

A San Diego native, Fox started every game for two years at UCLA. She hit .342 with 11 homers and 45 RBIs as a freshman in 2011. Last year, she batted .251 with four homers and 22 RBIs.

Fox's older sister, Kristie, starred for the UA from 2004 to 2007, earning two All-America nods at shortstop and leading the Wildcats to two Women's College World Series titles. She is now the head coach at Texas-Arlington.

The UA season starts Feb. 8 at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe.
