The Arizona Wildcats hit nine home runs, three coming from Courtney Rodriguez, in a doubleheader sweep of New Mexico State at Hillenbrand Stadium on Wednesday night
The Wildcats (36-9) won the first game 13-3 in five innings and took the nightcap 13-7.
Rodriguez, a sophomore center fielder who did not have a home run and had just nine extra-base hits in her 163 career at-bats entering the game, was one of four Wildcats to register multi-homer nights. Hallie Wilson, Chelsea Goodacre and Lauren Young all homered twice.
Arizona has a nation-leading 79 homers this season.
New Mexico State (26-21) joined in on the home run derby as well, hitting four of its own in the doubleheader.
Goodacre extended her Pac-12 lead in RBIs as she picked up seven total in the two games, bringing her to 63.
Rodriguez had six RBIs on the night.
The doubleheader sweep kept Arizona perfect at home. UA is 24-0 at Hillenbrand Stadium this season, 18 of those wins coming in mercy-fashion.
That’s how the first game went, with nine different UA batters recording a hit, including six multi-hit efforts as the Wildcats needed just five innings.
In the second game, a nine-run first inning — eight of which scored before New Mexico State recorded an out — helped the Cats cruise.
