The Arizona softball team pounded out a combined 23 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Ball State on Tuesday for their eighth straight five-inning, run-rule victory — a school record.

Kelsey Rodriguez went 3 for 3 with a three-run homer and five RBIs as UA won the first game 16-2 at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Chelsea Goodacre smashed two three-run homers for a career-high seven RBIs as the Wildcats (20-1) won the second game 12-3. Ball State fell to 12-4.

In the first game, Arizona jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first inning and tacked on four runs each in the second and third, led by more homers from Lauren Young, Mo Mercado and Kaityana Mauga.

Estela Piñon (4-1) relieved starter Shelby Babcock after one inning and struck out six and scattered two hits in four scoreless innings.

In the second game, Goodacre’s three-run blasts came in the second and third innings. Her seven RBIs gave her 32 for the season, tying her with teammate Kellie Fox atop the Pac-12. Chelsea Suitos and Kelsey Rodriguez added two RBIs each.

UA’s Nancy Bowling (5-0) went the distance, allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits. She struck out seven and had no walks.

UA heads to Fullerton, Calif., for the Judi Garman Classic, facing No. 4 Michigan at 4 p.m. and Wisconsin at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Cats face Cal State-Fullerton and Houston on Saturday, and San Jose State on Sunday.
