The University of Arizona softball team finished off its season-opening three-game sweep of Southern Miss in style Sunday, tossing a no-hitter in a 12-0 win in five innings.

Estela Pinon (1-0) pitched three hitless innings and Kenzie Fowler tossed two perfect innings in relief. Pinon struck out seven and walked two, while Fowler notched five strikeouts.

Freshman Mo Mercado went 3 for 3 with two doubles and five RBIs to lead the offense, which broke the game open with a nine-run second inning.

Chelsea Goodacre drove in three runs, while Courtney Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

UA (3-0) outscored Southern Miss 35-2 in winning three straight mercy-rule games.

The Wildcats next host the Hillenbrand Invitational from Thursday to Sunday, and will play six games at the event.
