Perhaps it is no surprise that Arizona’s Kelsey Rodriguez was named Pac-12 Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year on Wednesday — after all, her GPA nearly matched her batting average.
And both were lofty.
Rodriguez won the award after helping lead the Wildcats to the NCAA Super Regionals, pacing the team’s full-time starters with a .419 batting average. She also led the league in doubles, with 20. All the while, she maintained a 3.92 GPA as a psychology major at Arizona, where she is a senior.
The award — the program’s first since its inception in 2007-08 — was just the latest in a fruitful postseason for the Wildcat star. She also picked up first-team All-Conference and All-Academic honors, and was a second-team NFCA All-Region selection.
