UA softball beats New Mexico

The University of Arizona softball team continued its dominating start to the season, beating visiting New Mexico 8-0 in five innings at the Hillenbrand Invitational.

Chelsea Goodacre, Kellie Fox and Lauren Young homered for the Wildcats (5-0), who have outscored opponents 48-2.

Goodacre hit a three-run homer in the first inning to give UA a quick 3-0 lead. Fox’s homer was a solo shot in the third to put the Wildcats up 5-0. Young’s blast came in the fourth inning to make it 6-0.

Nancy Bowling (2-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing two hits with three strikeouts. Kenzie Fowler tossed the final two innings, and gave up only one hit.

The Wildcats have a 0.52 ERA this season to go with a .452 team batting average.

UA faces Tennessee State at 4 p.m. today and No. 4-

ranked Alabama at 6.
