Kellie Fox, a first-team All-Pac-12 shortstop at UCLA in 2011, enrolled at the UA this week and will play softball starting in 2014.

Fox is recovering from ulnar nerve surgery on her elbow and will sit out this season, UA coach Mike Candrea said.

Next season, Fox — who started every game for UCLA last year, hitting  .251 with four homers  and 22 RBIs — will replace Shelby Pendley, who last month announced she was leaving the Wildcats.

The Wildcats received a waiver of the Pac-12's in-conference transfer rule today; otherwise, Fox would have only one year of eligibility left, starting next season.

Now, she'll have two seasons of eligibility, beginning in January 2014. She will receive financial aid this year, likely from the scholarship Pendley left behind, and will be around the team.

Fox is the younger sister of Kristie Fox, a former UA star who is now the head coach at University of Texas-Arlington.
