Yannira Acuña had three hits, scored two runs and pitched a perfect final inning Thursday as Sunnyside defeated Jeffersonville, Indiana, 4-2 to advance to the semifinals of the Junior League Softball World Series in Kirkland, Washingson.

On Friday at 4:45 p.m., Sunnyside will face Greensburg, Pennsylvania, for the right to play in the championship game. Sunnyside beat the team from Pennsylvania 5-3 in their opening game of the tournament.

Sunnyside took the lead quickly with two runs in the first inning Thursday. Acuña and Amaya Turner both singled to open the first. Acuña later scored on a bases-loaded walk to Andrea Escarcega and Turner crossed the plate on an error.

After Jeffersonville cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth, Sunnyside picked up two more runs. Acuña and Turner again led off the inning with singles. Acuña scored on a ground out and Turner eventually scored on a grounder by Escarcega.

Jeffersonville added another run in the sixth.

Sunnyside starter Angel Sallas retired eight of the first nine batters she faced. She went six innings, giving up five hits and one earned run, before being replaced by Acuña.
