Ryan Bais isn't complaining. But if his two doubles teams post one more win apiece, the Ironwood Ridge boys tennis coach will have an interesting dilemma on his hands.

The Nighthawks doubles teams of Alec and Cody Petford and Josh Taylor and Connor Spiegel each won quarterfinal matches Saturday in the Division II doubles tournament in Glendale. If they both win their semifinal matches Monday, it will be an all-Ironwood Ridge final.

"It happened a couple of years ago, and it's always tough," Bais said. "It puts you in a weird spot, but it's great for the program."

For that to happen, the Petfords will have to beat Brandon Anhalt and Jason Keatseangsilp from Catalina Foothills.

The Falcon duo topped the No. 2 seed from Phoenix Shadow Mountain 6-2, 6-2 in the quarters.

"The Petford matchup should be interesting," Foothills coach Robb Salant said.

Taylor and Spiegel will take on a pair from Phoenix Thunderbird.

Foothills also got a singles player through to the semifinals.

Wade Heerboth, seeded fourth, beat teammate Dan Rapcsak 6-3, 6-1. Heerboth now will face Palo Verde's Carlos Bermudez, the No. 1 seed, in the semifinals.

"(Bermudez) is pretty tough," Salant said. "(Heerboth) will give it his best, and that's all he can do."

Bermudez has dropped just three games in his four matches so far.

On the girls side, the No. 1 doubles team from Ironwood Ridge, Katrina Domingo and Marissa Baca, advanced to the finals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brandee Cheung and Noelle Karp from Foothills.

The Falcons' other doubles team, second-seeded Zaina Sufi and Sam Ruth, advanced to the semifinals in the bottom of the bracket. They would face Domingo and Baca in the final if both teams post one more victory.

In singles play, Canyon del Oro's Rita Bermudez will face Foothills' Rachana Bhat in the semifinals Monday.

Both won 6-0, 6-0 Saturday.

At the Division I level, the only Southern Arizona connection left is the doubles team of Maeve McGeorge and Claire Baxter of Salpointe Catholic.

The third-seeded doubles team advanced to the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jamie McLaughlin and Madison Smythe from Glendale Mountain Ridge.

All semifinal matches are at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale. All championship matches are set for Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
