Four Southern Arizona boys advanced to the third round of the Division I singles tournament at Phoenix Tennis Center.

Salpointe Catholic's Matt Dunn (6-2, 6-1) and Brandon Gerber (6-0, 6-2) both won. So did Rincon/University's Neeko Gardner (6-2, 6-0) and Sierra Vista Buena's Chris Young (6-0, 7-6).

Tucson's Miguel Tolano and Gustavo Ruffo of Buena were knocked out.

Salpointe's Andrew Dunn and Tyler Linscott advanced in the doubles tournament 6-0, 6-0.

Meanwhile, the four remaining local girls were eliminated from Division I singles play.

Desert View's Sadiya Buta and Rincon's Anik Regan each lost 6-0, 6-0. Salpointe cousins Courtney and Lauren Amos both defaulted.

However, Salpointe's Maeve McGeorge and Clair Baxter advanced to the third round of the doubles tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Marilin Bear and Nicole Whinery from Salpointe lost 6-2, 6-1 and Rincon's Katherine Waters and Jessica Sun went down 6-2, 6-2.

Ironwood Ridge stood out in Division II action.

In doubles, Alec Petford and Cody Petford moved to the third round with a 6-1, 6-0 win while teammates Connor Spiegel and Josh Taylor advanced by default. Nighthawk Alex Bose won 6-1, 6-2 in singles.

Catalina Foothills also shone. Dan Rapcsak (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Wade Heerboth (6-0, 6-1) each won.

Heerboth will next play Marana's Michael Choffin who won 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Canyon del Oro's Cody Martin won by default on the boys side while fellow Dorado Rita Bermudez won 6-0, 6-0 in girls play.

Top-seeded Carlos Bermudez from Palo Verde won 6-1, 6-1 to advance in the boys singles bracket.

The third round and quarterfinals will both take place today at Phoenix Tennis Center.
