Catalina and Catalina Foothills have been here before.

For the second straight season, the Trojans and the Falcons will meet in the 2A-4A state championship match.

Top-seeded Foothills topped No. 5 Sahuaro 25-20, 25-20, 25-21 in the first semifinal Friday at Amphitheater.

No. 2 seed Catalina followed suit, beating No. 3 Gilbert Williams Field in straight sets 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 in the nightcap.

The two teams will play today at 3 p.m., with Foothills looking to get even after falling to the Trojans in last year's title match in four sets.

The Trojans have already beaten the Falcons twice this season, once in the TUSD Tournament and again in the regular season March 15.

"We're anxious to play them again," Foothills coach David Thistle said. "They are a great team, and they won't beat themselves. We're glad we get another shot."

Tyler Foo led Foothills in Friday's semifinal win with 13 kills and 12 digs.

Cooper Kowalski paced Catalina with 15 kills.

No. 1 seed Salpointe Catholic advanced to the title match in Gilbert, beating No. 13 Chandler in straight sets 25-22, 25-19, 25-19. Mesa Mountain View is next for the Lancers.

Jimmy Gehrels led the Lancers with 15 kills and added eight digs. Ben Malisewski had 38 assists.

"They were a good team and gave us a run for our money, but we executed," Salpointe coach Amy Johnson said.

Kevin Vock had a team-high 17 digs in the win. Dan Smith had five digs and a pair of aces.

"Dan Smith has been our go-to guy," Johnson said.

"Jimmy Gehrels, Ben Malisewski, all those guys did their job tonight."
