It’s been an eventful couple of weeks for Pima College volleyball player Kami Humphrey.

Last week, the 5-foot, 6-inch sophomore setter from Canyon del Oro was named Division II conference player of the week after totaling 84 assists, 29 digs and 13 kills in the prior week.

Then, on Friday, one night after Pima (4-7) won its home opener, Humphrey had a season-high 41 assists to help the Aztecs beat Mesa Community College for their first conference win of the year.

Sophomore outside hitter Cheryl Montague, an Academy of Tucson grad, converted a team-high 15 kills, which gave her 41 kills in the week and gave the Aztecs their second straight player of the week.

Coach Dan Bithell, in his 13th year, hopes it’s a sign of more good things to come.

“She’s been a real consistent performer and definitely our leader on the court,” Bithell said about Humphrey. “Her all-around game got her player of the week.”
