For years, the Cleveland Indians were the only pro game in town — and then only for a few weeks each spring. From 1945 to 1992 the Indians grew up with Tucson. The players stayed at the historic El Conquistador Hotel (now the site of El Con Mall) and brought with them celebrities like Bob Hope and some of the great names in baseball.
