Longtime Bulls executive Krause dies at 77
CHICAGO — Jerry Krause, the Chicago Bulls’ general manager during their 1990s dynasty that saw them capture six NBA championships with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen leading the way, died Tuesday. He was 77.
A Chicago native, Krause spent 18 seasons leading the Bulls’ front office and was a two-time NBA executive of the year. He helped put together a run that ranks among the most successful in NBA history and made the franchise a worldwide brand.

With Jordan and Pippen soaring around Chicago and Phil Jackson pulling the strings from the sideline, the Bulls dominated in a way few teams have. Krause, who took over as general manager in 1985, was responsible for surrounding Jordan with the pieces that propelled two championship three-peats in the 1990s.
Draft picks such as Toni Kukoc, Stacey King and B.J. Armstrong also played prominent roles on those teams. So did players he signed such as John Paxson, Steve Kerr, Bill Wennington and Ron Harper. The same goes for Dennis Rodman, the flamboyant force on the glass who was acquired in a trade.
• Klay Thompson had 23 points with five 3-pointers and the Warriors earned their 28th road win this season, beating the Mavericks 112-87 on Tuesday night in a matchup of the Curry brothers.
Stephen Curry, two-time MVP and the older of the brothers, had 17 points and nine assists for the defending NBA champion Warriors. Seth Curry, who was undrafted in 2013 and just this year became a starter with the Mavericks, had 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting. He is now 0-6 in NBA games against his brother, half of those losses coming as Golden State swept the season series.

DENVER — Magnus Paajarvi and Jaden Schwartz scored in the third period to send the Blues past the Avalanche 4-2 on Tuesday night.

UA’s Harper named Pac-12 player of the week
Arizona Wildcats freshmaan Jessie Harper was named the Pac-12 player of the week and freshman of the week on Tuesday. She hit .500 with three home runs and seven RBIs last week as the Wildcats beat Oklahoma and Long Beach State and swept Oregon State in the first series of Pac-12 play.
• The Pima College softball team swept Glendale Community College 6-1 and 20-0 on Tuesday, improving to 19-9 in ACCAC play. Bailey Critchlow went 4 for 6 with five runs scored.
