This week we review a few of SCORE’s favorite Biz Tip articles from 2017.

1. The vast majority of us do not achieve the goals we set. In order to achieve your goals, you must first know what you really want. Then, you need to understand exactly what you are willing to do to get it.

What sacrifices are you willing to make? Finally, you must be humble enough to know you do not have all the answers. You will need other people to help you.

2. Working with and motivating millennials can be a big challenge for some businesses. Try understanding the world from their perspective. They were raised believing they could have anything they wanted, as long as they wanted it badly enough. No one ever told them they would have to work really hard to get it. They were all rewarded equally with participation trophies. How could they know that only the top performers would be rewarded in the workplace? There are many other good reasons why millennials are the way they are. They were brought up this way, and it is not their fault.

3. If you do not track your results, you cannot measure them. Since it is difficult to improve what you cannot measure, tracking your results is really important. Most businesses are tracking the wrong stuff, so their results are almost worthless. Why track the number of calls an employee makes when you really want them to be generating new sales? Do you really care how many calls they make as long as they exceed your growth goals? Why not track their new closed business instead?

If you visit and search for “Biz tip of the week”, you will find more information on each of these topics. There are hundreds of other great articles there, too.

Have a fantastic 2018!
