Smashburger goes for a hat trick in Tucson — it plans to open its third area restaurant on March 5.

Smashburger coming in April to Oro Valley

Smashburger is set to open its fourth Tucson area location, this one in Oro Valley.

The beacon of burger bounty will open in early April at 7625 N. Oracle Road, in the shopping plaza anchored by Sprouts just north of West Ina Road.

“I’m really excited about it,” said Eric Wolf, the franchise operator of the three other Tucson Smashburger restaurants. “Tucson is a good burger town. There’s a tremendous amount of competition. I would say that we not only compete with the better burger players but also the fast-casual restaurants.”

Wolf opened his first Tucson Smashburger in November 2012 at 4821 E. Grant Road. The second one followed in fall 2013 at 3837 E. Broadway and third arrived in spring 2014 at 6970 E. 22nd St.

The Oro Valley restaurant will seat 61 in the dining room and 26 on the patio, Wolf said. It will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Wolf, who spent 26 years working for Pizza Hut on the corporate level, said he plans to open one or two more restaurants in the Tucson area.

West St. Mary’s Road gains a nano-brewery

The Littlest Pub is now open in the Wildcat Storage complex, 657 W. St. Mary’s Road. A microbrewery license was issued at the end of January for the nano-brewery, which specializes in vintage brews.

Owner Francisco Flores uses a tower system to produce the 18th- and 19th-century-style ales, which are aged in barrels as part of a “Cask Ale Series.” The series includes the pub’s flagship IPA, “prepared for the East Indies” as it would have been to ship overseas. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
