Bobby Rich, the affable hall-of-fame Tucson radio personality, will be sleeping in beginning in January.

After 24 years of waking up Tucson, Rich is moving into the afternoon drive slot at 94.9 MIXfm. "Bobby Rich Celebrates Tucson" will premiere Jan. 3 in the 3 to 7 p.m. slot.

“It won’t be like a talk show," Rich said. "it will be like the morning show is: play music and between songs we’ll have content. But I am going to focus as often as I can on Tucson stuff, whether it's in the nonprofit world or the business world or things to do in town.”

Rich said that over the past couple years he has been itching to do something new with his radio career, which over the past 32 years has included morning show stints in San Diego and Seattle before coming to Tucson. Early in his career, he worked the afternoon drive shift.

A couple months ago, station managers approached him with the new show idea, which Rich and his Morning MIX cohorts Greg Curtis and Mrs. Grant teased Tuesday morning.

"This is a great opportunity for me to be able to focus on (Tucson) in my new show,” he said.

Curtis and Mrs. Grant will continue to anchor the Morning MIX from 5 to 10 a.m. weekdays, followed by Marty Bishop on middays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
