Some fans headed to Country Thunder led astray by GPS systems

  • Updated

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office is advising motorists headed to the Country Thunder music festival in Florence about a route issue.

Mineral Mountain Drive, which intersects with U.S. 60 at Mile Post 216, is not a through roadway into Country Thunder. Several motorists have been stranded and needed assistance in getting back to U.S. 60, after their GPS navigation systems directed them to Mineral Mountain Drive as a way into the event, said sheriff's spokesman Sgt. P. Ramirez.

The only access into the event is from Hwy. #79 and E. Price Road, he said.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has been contacted and asked to close Mineral Mountain Drive until Monday, Ramirez said in a news release Thursday night.
