HUGHES, Mary Jean Isaacs
passed away on September 2, 2018. Affectionately known as Jean I, Mom, Creeps, and Alex to family and friends. Born in Summit, New Jersey, in 1931; moved to Tucson in 1949. A graduate of the University of Arizona, she then went to work at the Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind, where she met her husband, Robert. Survived by her five children, Nita Campuzano (Frank), Steve, Jana Tarter (Tom), Madeleine Knaggs (Peter), and Virginia Hughes; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Jean loved a friendly game of tennis and would join in a game at a moment's notice. With her sharp wit and keen observation, she found humor in all situations. She was a prolific writer and left us the gift of her voice in all of her writings. She always had a song in her heart and loved to sing and play the piano. A special thanks to the wonderful staff of Sunrise at River Road, who cared for Alex for so many years. And to the Harmony Hospice nurses who cared for her at the end of her life. Thank you for taking care of our mother. And in her own words, Jean would say of herself, "She weren't much, but she tried." A Memorial Service has been planned for Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Phillip's in the Hills Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by OASIS CREMATION.
