Jarrad Barnes, 24, was booked into Pima County jail May 7 on suspicion of one count each of manslaughter and driving under the influence in the wreck that killed former Pima County Supervisor Ann Day. The wreck happened that morning on East Ina Road near Westward Look Resort. Deputies say Barnes, who was driving a Chevrolet Impala, crossed the median and struck Day’s Toyota Prius. According witnesses the Impala was seen "bouncing off of curbs and driving at a high rate of speed in excess of 80 mph" before the crash, Nanos said. Day represented the county's District 1 as a Republican for two decades before not seeking re-election in 2011. Day was also the sister to former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, and served 10 years on the state Senate.
