Jesse Lee Steel, 48, was arrested Oct. 10, in connection with a double-shooting in Sunizona that left a woman dead and her husband seriously injured.

Steel has been booked into jail in connection with charges of burglary, aggravated assault, attempted murder and murder, said Carol Capas, a Cochise County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.

Shortly after 4 p.m., deputies responded to a shooting in the 6000 block of East Apache Street and discovered a man with several gunshot wounds to his upper body, and a deceased woman.

Coleman told 911 dispatchers that Steel was his neighbor and had come over to pick up some kittens that the couple were giving to him. Coleman said that his wife answered the door, after which he heard gunshots, before Steel came into the bedroom and fired several shots at him, Capas said.

Coleman told police that he chased after Steel with a weapon, firing two shots at him before Steel fled the area in his vehicle.

Deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents searched the area and were able to locate Steel at a nearby residence. He was taken into custody without incident, Capas said.
