Rural Metro responds to apple trailer fire on I-19

The Rural/Metro Fire Department crews responded to a scene on I-19 near Sahuarita Road where a tractor trailer full of apples was on fire.

At 5:14 a.m., units found "heavy fire and smoke coming from the trailer section" of the 53-foot full-size semi-trailer, said Capt. Jay Karlik, a spokesman for the department, in a news release.

Rural/Metro worked with the Green Valley Fire Department to extinguish the blaze, he said. There were no injuries.
