Hikers found skeletal remains Wednesday evening in an area of Mount Lemmon south of Summerhaven.

Two hikers found the skeletal remains about a quarter of a mile from the Marshall Gulch picnic area and called 911 just before 5 p.m., said Deputy Tracy Suitt, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The Marshall Gulch area is on the upper slopes of Mount Lemmon.

The Office of the Pima County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy.

Although homicide detectives were called in, “at this time it doesn’t seem like anything suspicious,” Suitt said. However, “we’re not going to rule out anything until the postmortem is done.”

Anyone with information about the remains should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
