The driver of a SUV that crashed in August leaving 10 people dead pleaded guilty Monday to one count of transportation of illegal immigrants resulting in death.

Brian Guzman-Ochoa, 39, pleaded guilty in federal court.

He was involved in the one vehicle rollover crash on Arizona 79 that killed 10 and injured nine people, all illegal immigrants, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office press release.

The crash happened about 15 miles south of Florence, when the 1998 GMC Suburban traveling northbound ran off the highway and into a nearby concrete wash.

Seven men and two women died at the scene and another man was pronounced dead at a hospital, the press release stated.

Ochoa, who is from Hermosillo, Sonora, is scheduled to be sentenced July 13.

A conviction carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, or the death penalty, a $250,000 fine or both, the press release stated.

However, prosecutorsrnment is not seeking the death penalty in this case because of the plea agreement.
