After years of training with gymnastics coaches Bela Karolyi and Steve Nunno, Kerri Strug had returned home to train with coach Jerry Hinkle. At Gymnastics World on April 20, 1994, Strug was doing back exercises during her session with Hinkle. As part of the U.S. women's gymnastics team, Strug had won a bronze medal at the Barcelona games in 1992. But, at the time of this workout, she was regaining her strength following an injury. "The '96 Olympics are way back in my mind now," she said. Strug would go on to the '96 Atlanta games and perform her courageous vault on a badly sprained ankle.
