1929: The airship Graf Zeppelin sails over Tucson on its world journey. Citizens take to the rooftops to watch the spectacle; the bell at St. Augustine Cathedral sounds a welcome.

1964: Two people are killed when a tornado hits a village near Mission San Xavier del Bac. Nine people were injured and four homes destroyed in that F2 tornado with wind speeds between 113 and 157 mph. The state averages at least four reported tornadoes each year, but all three Arizona tornado fatalities from tornadoes since 1950 have occurred in Pima County.
