Tucson police: Man on stolen bike being chased by owner struck by SUV

crime scene tape

A man was seriously injured after Tucson police say he was struck by an SUV while being chased by the owner of a bicycle he allegedly stole.

The man was hit just before 9 p.m. near West Speedway and North Main Avenue, said Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson police spokesman.

The SUV driver remained at the scene to cooperate with police, Dugan said.

No further information has been released.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the extent of the cyclist's injuries. The man sustained life-threatening injuries, according to police.
