Load of potato chips burns in trailer fire

A potato chip truck burned to a crisp during an early morning fire on the Northwest side.

The pickup truck hauling a trailer full of Poore Brothers chips caught fire while driving down Twin Peaks Road just east of Interstate 10 a little after 5 a.m. Thursday, said Capt. Adam Goldberg, spokesman for the Northwest Fire District.

The driver pulled over and got out of the truck safely. Fire crews arrived within four minutes and found the 24-foot trailer and its $6,000 worth of potato chips blazing.

The chips, destined for local grocery stores, were a total loss.

Damage to the inventory, plus computer equipment and the trailer, brought the estimated damage to $12,000, Goldberg said.
