The driver who police believe ran his truck into a bus stop last Wednesday, killing one man and injuring a woman, was arrested overnight in midtown.

33-year-old Ruben Aulbert Lemon was booked on suspicion of one count of a hit and run involving a death, which is a Class 2 felony. Additional charges may be added at a later date, according to a news release from Tucson Police Department.

Police were called to the scene of an accident last Wednesday, where a driver of a 2011 Nissan Titan had struck a man and a woman at a bus stop at East Pima Street and North Alvernon Way.

The driver had fled the scene. The two victims were transported to Banner University Medical Center, where the man, identified as 67-year-old Leonard Green, later succumbed to his injuries, the release said.

Traffic detectives determined that the driver of the Titan was traveling south on Alvernon and made an eastbound turn onto Pima at a high rate of speed.

The driver lost control of the truck, veered off the roadway and struck the bus bench on the south-side of the street.

Officers identified Lemon as the driver and detained him within hours of the collision, but no arrests were made at the time. After continuing the investigation, officers were able to develop probable cause to arrest him.

They detained him at a residence in the 100 block of East Pastime Road, Saturday night.

The investigation is ongoing. TPD asks anyone with information on the collision to call 88-CRIME.
