Manzo Elementary School's greenhouse and aquaponics was vandalized over the weekend resulting in the loss of more than 100 pounds of tilapia, the school reported on Facebook.

An elementary school on Tucson's west side was vandalized over the weekend, according to Karla Escamilla, Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman.

The greenhouse and aquaponics system at Manzo Elementary School, located at 855 N. Melrose Ave., near West Speedway Boulevard and North Grande Avenue, were both vandalized.

Two solar fans were stolen, more than 50 fish were found dead, the aquaponics system was damaged and all the greenhouse plants were destroyed in the incident, Escamilla said.

School administrators filed a police report and reported the incident to school safety officers, Escamilla said.

A post on Manzo Ecology's Facebook page showed photos of dead tilapia fish and destroyed chiltepin starts.

Escamilla said school staff and community volunteers will continue to clean up the damage.
