If you buy produce from local farmers at farmers markets or co-ops, you're probably shopping in the spirit of fair trade. "Just think of the concept of what fair trade means. Like with our growers - we pay them a good price, but we could get the same product from a distributor and they would get a cut and the farmer would get less," said Ben Kuzma, general manager of the Food Conspiracy Co-op on North Fourth Avenue.
"Anytime you're selling local produce or local products you're within the spirit of the fair-trade meaning. That's the whole idea."
