Steve Anaya

A Pima County man convicted of a fatal shooting in a 2016 drug deal gone bad has been sentenced to life in prison.

Prosecutors say Steven Anaya got a life prison term on a first-degree murder charge, five years for attempted first-degree murder, 7½ years for aggravated assault charge and 2½ years for an illegal weapons possession charge.

He was sentenced Monday.

Authorities say Alan Galvez and his cousin were shot in August 2016 when the two tried to sell heroin to Anaya.

The cousin was wounded but escaped.

Authorities say Anaya dumped Alan Galvez's body in the desert and stole and pawned the victim's gold necklace.

Anaya was arrested two weeks later and authorities say he still had the murder weapon in his possession.
