Thousands in Chile take icy plunge
Thousands of people plunged into the cold icy waters of the Magellan Strait in Chile on Saturday during the "Splash of the Strait," an event suspended for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Punta Arenas, the southernmost city in the world, woke up under 10 centimeters (almost four inches) of snow and to sub-zero temperatures. But that didn't stop 5,000 people from swimming in the waters of the Strait. The wild initiative started 15 years ago as a joke amongst six young people and has grown into a national and international event.
