St. Paul raccoon triumphs to reach roof after scaling skyscraper, captivating public
A raccoon that appeared to be stranded on a ledge after climbing more than 20 stories of a high-rise office building in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, has made it to the roof, easing concerns that the animal could plummet to its death.
Onlookers and reporters tracked the raccoon's progress Tuesday as it scaled the UBS Tower. By early Wednesday, the animal made it to the roof, where St. Paul Animal Control had placed cat food and a trap in hopes of enticing the animal to safety.
The raccoon's adventures caused a stir on social media, with many Twitter users voicing concern for its safety or joking about the drama surrounding the animal's exploits. Minnesota Public Radio, from a building less than a block away, branded the raccoon #mprraccoon.
North America beats Morocco to host 2026 World Cup
FIFA member federations voted 134-65 in favor of selecting the joint bid from the United States, Canada and Mexico to host the 2026 World Cup over Morocco.
The outcome was an endorsement for the more profitable and stable bid from the North American neighbors.
The four countries involved in the bidding and three U.S. territories were not involved in the ballot.
In his acceptance speech, U.S. Soccer Federation president Carlos Cordeiro says "Thank you so, so very much for this incredible honor."
The 2026 World Cup has 48 teams playing a total of 80 games — 60 planned across 10 U.S. cities, and 10 games in three cities for each of Canada and Mexico.
Wisconsin mother charged in horrific "slow death" of disabled daughter
Wisconsin mother who admitted she couldn't remember when she last fed or cleaned her severely disabled 13-year-old daughter has been charged with child neglect in the teen's death.
Outagamie County District Attorney Melinda Tempelis said in court Monday that Brianna Gussert, who was unable to walk, talk or care for herself, suffered a "slow death."
"This poor child struggled and suffered immensely because her mom did not check on her at all," Tempelis said.
The police officer who discovered Brianna's body during a welfare check May 29, 2017, said her bedroom smelled like "rotten food, human waste and death," according to a criminal complaint. The Outagamie County Coroner's Office estimates Brianna had died May 24.
An autopsy indicates the primary cause of her death was sepsis, a blood infection. The criminal complaint says the skin under Brianna's diaper had already started to decompose when her body was found.
Dennis Hof, Nevada's most famous pimp, wins GOP primary
Pimp Dennis Hof, the owner of half a dozen legal brothels in Nevada and star of the HBO adult reality series "Cathouse," won a Republican primary for the state Legislature on Tuesday, ousting a three-term lawmaker.
Hof defeated hospital executive James Oscarson. He'll face Democrat Lesia Romanov in November, and will be the favored candidate in the Republican-leaning Assembly district.
Hof celebrated his win at a party in Pahrump with Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss at his side.
"It's all because Donald Trump was the Christopher Columbus for me," Hof told the Associated Press in a phone call. "He found the way and I jumped on it."
Hof, who wrote a book titled "The Art of the Pimp," has dubbed himself "The Trump of Pahrump," and held a rally with longtime Trump adviser Roger Stone. Hof was in the limelight in 2015, when former NBA player Lamar Odom was found unconscious at Hof's Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada, after a four-day, $75,000 stay.
Tinder date leads to Nebraska woman's dismemberment, police say
A Nebraska woman who went missing in November was still alive when the duo accused of killing her was caught on store surveillance video buying the tools that police think they used to dismember her, prosecutors allege in newly unsealed court documents.
Aubrey Trail, 51, and Bailey Boswell, 23, appeared in Saline County Court on Tuesday to face charges of first-degree murder and the improper disposal of human skeletal remains in the killing of 24-year-old Sydney Loofe, of Lincoln. Trail is representing himself. The Nebraska Commission on Public Advocacy, which is representing Boswell, declined to comment Tuesday.
In the unsealed arrest affidavit, though, investigators said Trail and Boswell were captured on video at a Home Depot in Lincoln on Nov. 15 buying tools used to dismember Loofe, hours before Loofe's death and while she was still at work.
Authorities say Loofe met Boswell through the Tinder dating app and that they went on a date Nov. 14 and planned a second one for the following night. Loofe's mother reported her missing on Nov. 16, and her dismembered body was found in December stuffed into garbage bags that had been dumped in a field near Edgar, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) southwest of Lincoln.
In the newly unsealed documents, prosecutors allege that Trail told investigators he strangled Sydney Loofe with an extension cord. Investigators believe Boswell, who lived with Trail in Wilber, helped Trail dismember Loofe and get rid of her remains.
Trump slams Robert De Niro as 'a very Low IQ individual'
President Donald Trump is slamming actor Robert De Niro as "a very Low IQ individual."
At Sunday night's Tony Awards, De Niro launched an expletive at Trump. On Monday, the actor apologized to Canadians for the "idiotic behavior of my president."

Trump says De Niro, who won an Academy Award for his performance in 1980's "Raging Bull," ''has received to (sic) many shots to the head by real boxers in movies."
Trump says he believes De Niro "may be 'punch-drunk,'" adding, "Wake up Punchy!"
Robert De Niro, a very Low IQ individual, has received too many shots to the head by real boxers in movies. I watched him last night and truly believe he may be “punch-drunk.” I guess he doesn’t...— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 13, 2018
