Just a few days ago, while we waited at a traffic light, the car next to us stalled. The driver attempted to push it out of the way by himself. Then two men ran from opposite directions to help: random acts of kindness.

On New Year’s Eve, as I waited with two others in an Albertsons checkout line, the clerk informed me that the lady at the end wanted to pay for our purchases. When I thanked her, but attempted to refuse her generous offer, she would not accept my protestations. What an uplifting way to end the year and begin the new one. Thanks, Debby, for your random act of kindness.

Please add my comments to those whose letters you published in today’s Star. For 2018 I hope that we and our leaders will think of the world as a large and diverse family, not all of whom are as fortunate, and perform more random acts of kindness. Pay it forward.
