I recently saw a 1939 aerial view of the Monastery on Country Club. I bet the Benedictine Sisters sure were disappointed with the upstart Sam Hughes and Miramonte neighborhoods paving the desert, destroying the wildlife habitat, and bringing in amenities. The folks who live in these neighborhoods now did nothing to help preserve this historic property or support the Sisters. The new owner met with us and shared his plan for preserving the Chapel and out-buildings. He made it pretty clear that he needs to get a return on his investment and that he isn’t interested in being demonized. I think that, if the Sisters got behind his plan, we should too.
