(Re: Two gun related articles from the 2 January Star). I was encouraged by the articles on "gun death statistics", and on "acceptable arms in Arizona". The first explored the relationship between safe firearm storage and a reduction in accidental gun deaths. The second described an effort to enact a law guaranteeing the type of weapons Arizonans can possess (Arizona militia constitutional right). There was a common foundation for both articles. That is, discussion of regulations with clear objectives along with supporting rationale and data. Interesting that the groups representing the extremes did not comment in any meaningful way (the NRA and Everytown for Gun Safety). Let us continue to shun the extremists and find meaningful steps to define what our society will accept as a balance between gun rights and safety.
