Recent TV items (Channel 9) ran segment about both political party politicians forecasting social security going broke by 2030. Neither party would say how to fix it (reduce benefits, hike retirement age etc, and other pie in the sky fixes). Just a lot of hand wringing. If the politicians wanted too garner sure thing voters (for all or either party,), they could bi-partisanally work out how to have the government redeem trillions of unpaid treasury bonds issued as security to the trust fund, and as a safety measure, include a "no change ever prohibition" for borrowing from the trust fund again.
