Sen. Jeff Flake should vote no on confirming Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. If Flake has reasonable doubt as to whether Kavanaugh deserves this lifetime appointment of incredible importance, the correct decision is to vote no. He must not take a gamble — there is too much at stake.
Judges should adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior. They are vital decision makers and role models, and they ensure that the foundation of democracy — the rule of law — remains intact. This job cannot go to a person who has not demonstrated that they follow the law and respect the people over whom they have power. If Flake believes Dr. Ford's testimony, he must vote no. Violence against women, including sexual violence, is a serious and pervasive issue that must be addressed. A "no" vote will make Flake a hero and cement his place as a political leader. A "yes" vote will show his constituents that he puts politics before women's safety.
