David Fitzsimmons' Dec. 7 cartoon regarding tax cuts and the consequences for the poor hit very close to home for me. As a teacher who works with homebound students, I see families who struggle financially every day as a result of mounting medical costs. There are many families out there trying to pay rent, fill a gas tank to get to doctor appointments, while trying to keep hope alive.

No child should be denied health care for cancer, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, traumatic brain injury, etc. Children should be able to go to bed every night with a full stomach. The greed in this country as exhibited by our government leaders is unparalleled. Are we to govern with abundance, or should we bring back the work houses in order to "decrease the excess population"?
