I look from outside at Arizona now, having lived there a number of years. I'm sad that the drive for power and control has grown more evident each political year. The stranglehold of theological conservatives on power in the state legislature has resulted in the continued need to fight against hypocritical legislation used to capture political pawns. Arizona is a leader in the dumbing down of its citizens so that wages can be kept low, dissent can result in prison terms, and social services can be minimized. Visitors have to overlook the poverty of the state while admiring its physical beauty.
