Arizona edges Cal in gymnastics


Gabby Laub (uneven bars) and Lexi Mills (floor) each won their events as Arizona beat Cal 196.475-196.100 in a Pac-12 gymnastics meet Saturday night at McKale Center.

• UA finished fourth as the Pac-12 women’s swimming and diving championships ended in Seattle. Cal (1,629.5) won the title, followed by Stanford (1,401), USC (1,109). UA (954.5) was led by diver Samantha Pickens, who won the 1-meter diving title.

• In men’s golf, host UA tied for fifth in Saturday’s first round of the National Invitational Tournament, nine strokes behind leader New Mexico State after a 4-over 292 at Omni Tucson National. UA’s Alex McMahon is tied for third, two back after a 2-under 70. The three-day event ends Monday.

• In women’s golf, UA’s Wanasa Zhou made the cut of the Symetra Tour’s Volvik Championship as an amateur with a 73.

• In track and field, UA’s Elvin Kibet won the women’s 3,000-meter indoor race in 9:15.14 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championships in Seattle. UA finished seventh; the Arizona men were ninth.
