Lorenzo Romar's stay in Arizona will last only a year, with Pepperdine having officially announced Monday that he will return to where he started his head coaching career in 1996-97.

Romar was fired last March after 15 seasons as Washington's head coach and agreed to join Sean Miller's UA staff as associate head coach in April 2017 to replace Joe Pasternack, who left to become UC Santa Barbara's head coach.

Romar, 59, will stay with Arizona throughout its NCAA Tournament appearance, but his move leaves yet another opening for the Wildcats to fill next season.

Currently, the Wildcats' 2018-19 roster has only Sean Miller as head coach, Mark Phelps as an assistant, plus six players: guards Dylan Smith, Alex Barcello and Brandon Randolph along with forwards Ira Lee, Emmanuel Akot and Chase Jeter.

Arizona has no recruits lined up for 2018-19 after guard Brandon Williams and forward Shareef O'Neal decommitted in the wake of an ESPN report saying Miller allegedly discussed paying a recruit.

USBWA named Deandre Ayton to its five-player first-team All-America team.
