Foothills quarterback Rhett Rodriguez committed in January to play for his father, UA coach Rich Rodriguez, in 2017.

When Rich Rodriguez and Greg Byrne spoke at a Monday news conference hyping season tickets for the upcoming football season, the conversation often drifted toward recruiting.

The goal was to get fans excited, and the school is kicking off its season-ticket campaign with the motto “Our House.”

Still, the talk kept coming back to recruiting.

“Recruits want to see a packed house,” Rodriguez said.

Later, Rodriguez declared: “I do think we’ll have one of the best recruiting classes that this school’s put together in a long, long time.”

There’s reason to believe.

The Wildcats have secured verbal commitments from six high school juniors for 2017, including two — athletes Greg Johnson and Nathan Tilford — who are highly rated by every online recruiting service.

The Wildcats are building momentum in recruiting, and it seems the school is hoping that excitement entices fans to, well, buy more tickets.

“Look at the impact already in recruiting the last few months,” Byrne, Arizona’s athletic director, said. “There’s excitement that you’re seeing from high school and junior college programs across the country. Coach Rodriguez and his staff have a new level of commitment there.”

A new level of commitment, with a new level of, uh, verbal commitments at this time of the year. Here’s a look at the six players who have already committed to Arizona, sorted by collective rankings. Don’t be surprised if the Wildcats add more before the start of the season.
