Arizona is losing a recruit from its 2018 class, but the Wildcats are not losing him altogether.

Desert Pines (Las Vegas) receiver Jaden Mitchell will be delaying his enrollment until January 2019 as he recovers from a knee injury, Mitchell told the Star.

Mitchell, a three-star recruit in the 2018 class, tore the meniscus and ACL in his left knee in August and has missed most of his senior season at Desert Pines. Mitchell said he still plans to graduate early.

By delaying his enrollment, assuming he eventually signs with Arizona, Mitchell's scholarship will instead count toward the UA's 2019 recruiting class.

Mitchell was one of Arizona's earliest recruits to verbal in UA's 2018 class, committing back in April, picking the Wildcats over UNLV and Hawaii. With the loss of the 6-foot, 180-pound receiver, at least for 2018, Arizona's class now sits at 16 commitments.

Generally, Arizona's policy is to stick it out with players they're committed to, even if they've suffered a serious injury after committing to the UA.

About this topic, UA coach Rich Rodriguez said this in August: “Just because of bad luck with injuries, we’ll stay committed to them. Then if he can’t play anymore, we’ll still bring him on and use him as a student assistant."

Even with the loss of Mitchell, Arizona still has three receivers committed in its 2018 class, including Thomas MarcusTre Adams and Zach Williams
